Aldea clinician and counselor, Alex Ochoa, spends every Friday counseling teens on drugs and alcohol at New Tech High. He states that substance abuse affects not only the user, but also significantly impacts the families. Ochoa spent the fall helping a class of psychology students to help combat the problem of substance abuse among middle school and high school students.
New Technology High School students have produced a video project intended to help parents and teens better understand the impact of using common drugs - of which 30-40 percent of teens in Napa County turn to at some point- the experience from a teen perspective and how to best deal with the issue of pressures and use.
This project includes detailed and informative video messages by teenagers, revealing short excerpts explaining the physical and health impacts of drugs and alcohol, and positive messages about avoiding use.
